Driveway Drainage Basics
Gravel driveways require a slight crown (2–4%) to shed water. Ditches or swales channel water off the surface into safe outlets. Without crown and ditches, water pools, fines migrate, and ruts form.
Solutions We Install
- Swales & Ditches: Shape and stabilize for controlled flow.
- Culverts: Sized and installed to move water under driveways—proper bedding and cover.
- French Drains: Subsurface systems with perforated pipe and clean stone to intercept water.
- Outlets & Riprap: Protect discharge points and slopes from erosion.
Maintenance
- Keep ditches clear of sediment and vegetation.
- Inspect culvert inlets/outlets after storms.
- Regrade to restore crown as needed.
